It’s really fascinating to see pictures of Earth taken from space. These images keep people transfixed because they show our home planet from completely different angles. As the year draws to a close, it’s time to take a look back at some of the amazing photos of Earth from space.
- Earth taken from the window of SpaceX Dragon
SpaceX’s Dragon Endurance spacecraft captured a very special image of Earth while transporting astronauts to the International Space Station. NASA shared a visual on Instagram and also provided details.
“Framed by the windows of a spacecraft capsule, space is on the left and Earth is on the right. The blue waters of the Strait of Gibraltar are in the center of the image. On either side are the continents of Europe and Africa, in tan, brown, “It is depicted in green. Small white clouds dot the sky over land and sea,” the American space agency wrote.
2. Earth covered in clouds
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) had a unique perspective on the blue planet. Andreas Mogensen gave a glimpse of that in an Instagram post he shared a few months ago. The photo he shared shows the Earth covered in clouds.
Check out the captivating photos he posted.
3. Aurora dancing in the Earth’s atmosphere
The Northern Lights are Mother Nature’s own light show. The vibrant colors of the Northern Lights pirouette across the canvas of the night are a truly mesmerizing sight. But it becomes even more amazing when you can capture this natural phenomenon dancing in Earth’s atmosphere from space.
“Auroras dance in Earth’s atmosphere as the International Space Station (@ISS) flies 260 miles (418 km) over Utah during the night in orbit,” NASA wrote while sharing this incredible photo. Ta.
4. The Horn of Africa seen from space
NASA maintains several Instagram pages, one of which is dedicated to videos and images related to the blue planet. In a recent post, NASA Earth shared a photo of the Horn of Africa taken from the International Space Station.
“While orbiting over the Horn of Africa, astronauts aboard the @ISS took photos of the northeast coast of Somalia. Winds in both directions scraped the tan, brown, and reddish sands near the coastline. “Streams carved canyons into the land over time, forming the sand dunes that can be seen,” NASA said.
5. Himalayas seen from space
Astronaut Andreas Mogensen, currently aboard the International Space Station, has shared a series of photos of a very special place on Earth: the Himalayas.
“Today, on a cloudless and sunny day, I saw the Himalayas and even think I might have gotten a good photo of Mount Everest as well. However, I am not completely sure. Everest is marked in the last photo. I think it’s the top with a few clouds,” he wrote as part of the post.
