Two isolated fishing huts that inspired the 2019 remake of Storm Boy have been put up for sale, capturing the imagination of lifestyle buyers.
The small houses at 10 and 11 Barker Knoll are two of only 10 remaining cabins on the Murray Estuary and date back more than a century.

Today, the lifestyle and facilities have not changed much, and many of the rustic features of the time remain, such as tin walls, carved wood ceilings, and a hearth illuminated by windows.
It’s no wonder this setting inspired the reimagining of Australian family drama Storm Boy, which was filmed just meters away in 2017.
“These cabins would have existed when the original ‘Storm Boy’ movie was made. So they probably influenced the first movie, but what you see here is the cabin in the[movie], and also used some of the furniture, so it definitely inspired the remake with Geoffrey Rush,” said Alastair Johnson, distributor at Spence Dicks & Co. .
“Literally, a movie set was built just a few hundred meters from here, and of course when it was finished, it was all torn down.”
Johnson said the cabin was originally established about 110 years ago and the current owners have been enjoying the property as a family retreat since the 1970s.
“It’s just a piece of history. It’s rare to get something like this,” he said.
“One of the tin walls is a flattened 44-gallon drum used during World War I due to steel shortages, and one of the bedroom ceilings is lime-washed. It’s very quaint and rustic.”
Mr Johnson said the sale of the barracks was facilitated under a Crown lease agreement and was conditional on a gray water system being developed for residential use.
He said buyers should also be aware that the area is a dog-free zone and the cabins cannot be rented out for commercial use such as Airbnb.
“We’ve had a few people put off because they can’t bring their dogs, but overall interest has been strong and offers in excess of $200,000 are being invited,” he said.
“It’s a great facility for people who like birdwatching, fishing, artists, and those looking for pure escapism.
“You can catch mullet from your front door, or you can walk 15 minutes to some of the best mullet fishing in the state.”
Expressions of interest close on November 20th at noon.
