Star rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter surfaced on the Eagles’ injury report on Thursday.
Carter, 22, did not practice after playing the full session on Wednesday.
In addition to Carter, the Eagles were also without cornerback Darius Slay (knee) and safety Justin Evans (knee) Thursday. Slay and Evans missed practice for the second day in a row, but Carter is a new addition.
Through five games, Carter has done more than just do well as a rookie. An argument can be made that he is the Eagles’ best defensive player and one of the best defensive players in the entire NFL. He’s on track to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Through five games this season, Carter already has 3 1/2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 4 QB hits, 12 tackles for loss, and 23 total pressures, tying him for the league lead among defensive tackles with Aaron Donald. I’m here. The No. 9 overall pick out of Georgia has been great so far.
Carter’s injury is certainly something to keep an eye on as the Eagles approach Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. kickoff against the Jets at MetLife Stadium.
The good news at the defensive tackle position is that the Eagles could return Fletcher Cox (backs) and Marlon Tuipulotu (triceps) on Sunday. Cox was limited on Wednesday but played the full game on Friday. And Tuipulotu returned as a limited participant after missing the first day of the week.
