An Indian-born doctor working at a hospital in Bahrain has been fired for posting anti-Palestinian comments on social media. The Royal Bahrain Hospital announced on Thursday that it had terminated the employment of Dr. Sunil Rao due to his tweets that were “offensive to society.”
Dr. Rao posted a series of tweets that appeared to support Israel during its deadly conflict with Hamas. His tweet went viral after being posted by user X (formerly Twitter), who called on Bahraini authorities to take note.
Shortly after, the Royal Bahrain Hospital decided to fire Dr. Rao. In a statement posted on social media, the hospital said it had taken legal action and removed him from his job.
In a statement, the hospital said, “It has come to light that Dr. Sunil Rao, who works as an internal medicine specialist, has been posting tweets attacking society on social media.” “We want to confirm that his tweets and ideology are personal and do not reflect the hospital’s opinions or values. This is a violation of our code of conduct and we has taken the necessary legal action and terminated his services with immediate effect.” “
Before the hospital issued its statement, Dr. Rao posted an apology calling Mr. X’s comments “insensitive.”
“I would like to apologize for the statement I posted on this platform. It was insensitive in the context of this event. As a doctor, every life matters. I have been here for a long time and I want to apologize to the people and religion of this country. “I have deep respect for the past 10 years,” he said in the post.
Profile removed from website
User X distributed a screenshot of Dr. Rao’s profile at Royal Bahrain Hospital along with his tweet. According to his profile, he specializes in internal medicine and has about 20 years of experience.
However, the hospital removed his profile from its website.
According to his X profile, he is an alumnus of Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, where he completed his MBBS degree. Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, Karnataka. There he completed his MD.
