Nearly two years after demolition of the historic Dunedin mansion known as Kellogg House was approved for demolition, the property is back on the market.
A vacant waterfront property with a private dock at 129 S. Buena Vista Drive is on the market for $7 million, according to real estate firm Coldwell Banker.
The one-acre lot was home to a 7,600-square-foot Mediterranean Revival home built in 1925. At one time, it was owned by the founder of the cereal company Kellogg. WK Kellogg purchased it in his 1934 and he spent two winters in his Gulf Coast home. The house was later used as living quarters for the U.S. Marines during World War II and as a testing base for Roebling amphibious vehicles, according to newspaper archives.
After seven years of struggling to attract a buyer, the flashy home sold for $4 million in 2021. But restoring the property could cost upwards of $1 million. The new owner, Palm Harbor physician David Wenk, has applied for a permit to demolish the building.
Most of Tampa Bay’s coastal areas are developed, so vacant waterfront land is rare and can fetch high prices.
Now that the historic home has been demolished, Coldwell Banker listing agent Terry Tyran says the three-lot property is an opportunity for someone to custom build their own home on this rare piece of property. Told. Plus, it’s located in Dunedin, a city known for its small-town charm and sunset views.
Overall, you’ll enjoy 85 feet of waterfront views.
“God doesn’t build waterfronts anymore,” Tirun said.
