Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, today hosted the International Automobile Federation (FIA) General Assembly. Held at the end of a year of great progress in motorsport and mobility, it highlighted the work being done to build a stronger FIA for its members.
The FIA General Assembly was led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, with FIA Vice-President for Sport Robert Reed, FIA Vice-President for Automotive Mobility and Tourism Tim Sharman and FIA Senate President Carmelo Sanz de Barros. At the meeting, the FIA President’s team demonstrated that it not only honors its manifesto commitments, but continues to develop them further.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “This General Assembly marks the end of a very busy year, with successful regional conferences in Strasbourg, Bari, Guatemala and, of course, in Cordoba.
“We are also proud to have entered the 2nd FIA President’s Awards. These are great examples of improvement in the areas of sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion and road safety.”
He added: “It is clear that we remain a leader in developing the innovations of tomorrow. Innovation and leadership are precisely what makes the FIA so special and a far-reaching organization that benefits society. 2023 FIA President’s Award winners announced
The 2023 FIA President’s Award received a total of 44 entries from FIA members around the world. The award recognizes the work undertaken by FIA members to drive sustainable and measurable change in the areas of climate action, road safety and equality, and diversity and inclusion (EDI). ).
The Allgemeiner German Automobile Club (ADAC) was recognized for its work on climate change prevention, the Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) on road safety, and Motorsport South Africa for its work on EDI. Each winner will receive a donation of 10,000 euros to support the project and other growth and development initiatives.

2023 Forecast and 2024 Budget
In a bid to improve transparency and balance the budget, the FIA has presented both a 2023 forecast and a 2024 budget that reduce operating losses year-on-year.
Amendments to FIA regulations
Seven amendments to the Regulations were approved by the FIA General Assembly. Changes include:
- lowering the age limit for members of the presidential team from 75 to 70;
- Adjust the composition and selection criteria of the FIA Ethics Committee;
- In addition to the FIA Ethics Committee, establishes its own reporting line from the FIA Compliance Officer to the FIA Senate and its President;
- Introduced reference to the Euro Council as a subdivision of FIA Region I in the regulations.

Additionally, 11 amendments to the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules were approved.
The main changes to the FIA International Sporting Code approved by the General Assembly concern the right of review, the maximum amount of fines that stewards can impose, the use of pyrotechnics in FIA competitions, the introduction of E-sports and the organization of national F4 championships. 2024 FIA General Assembly
Two general meetings will be held in 2024.
The Extraordinary General Meeting will be held during the week of the FIA meeting on 14 June 2024 and will be mainly devoted to the annual financial results and the approval of legislative amendments. The conference will be held in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The 2nd General Meeting and Award Ceremony will be held on December 13, 2024 in Kigali City, Rwanda.
