Timo Werner stats: how has he fared since leaving Chelsea?
Werner was one of the biggest stars in the world when he first moved to London from RB Leipzig, scoring 28 goals in the Bundesliga in his final season before making a big-money move to Chelsea.
He had an eventful first season at Chelsea, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists in 52 games. Among them was a goal against Real Madrid that helped the Blues reach the Champions League final, and a goal against Man City that helped the Blues reach the final. FA Cup final.
In his second season, he scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists, and the forward returned to Leipzig for less than half his price.
Werner scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 40 games last year, but this season he has only started two games in the Bundesliga and missed two games due to injury. He started the season with a start and an assist in the German Super Cup win over Bayern, but has since scored just two goals in a total of 322 minutes.
Will this be a good move for Tottenham?
Covering his entire salary may be surprising to some given Spurs’ reputation, but there is little other risk for Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou has done more with less during his career, and Werner is an excellent passer and ball progressor, and it would be a home run if he can capture even half of his pre-Chelsea form.
With Alejo Velis injured and Richarlison inconsistent, it could be a home run if he can maintain his form in his first year at Chelsea.
We’ll see if the Spurs get this over the line, but Werner and Postecoglou could be a winning combo.
