No fewer than five Lady Dragons were named PVCA District 10 All-Stars on the verge of Warren’s second-ever PIAA playoff appearance.
Senior middle hitter Kylie Fehlman and senior libero Summer Lux were named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) Class AAA first team, senior outside hitter Alexia Bowers, junior outside hitter Maddie Jones, Junior setter Lindsey Madigan was selected to the second team.
“The great thing about these All-Stars is that they have been selected by the coaches in District 10, and in front of those coaches, they have played this season in scrimmages, tournaments, league games, nonleague games. We’ve played a lot of games between them.” Warren coach Mike Dolan said the D10 3A champion Dragons (15-2) will face North Catholic (18-1) today at Warren Area High School at 6 p.m. “It’s also a great compliment that almost half of the AAA All-Stars come from one team, but they each earned that honor individually. They are part of a team that has worked very well together. It’s also a tribute to all the players on the team and contributes to the individuals who are selected as All-Stars.”
In 104 sets, Fehrman had 251 kills and 68 blocks, while Lux had 556 digs and 55 aces.
“Kyrie and Summer were also on the first team last year, and they not only maintained their level of play, but improved it significantly.Although they have diametrically opposed roles on the team, each stands out on the court with their individual play. Kyrie has the blocking, attacking and net presence while Summer has the serving, serve-receive passing and back-row defense.”
Madigan has 892 assists and 2,338 tries as a setter. She also has a 94% service success rate, 55 aces, and 188 digs.
“Lindsay was named to the All-Star team last season, and she has improved a lot this year as well.” Dolan said. “She has improved everyone’s offensive efficiency, especially by running a diverse offense and putting together so many great sets. She is a great server and defender as well.”
Bowers (257) and Jones (251) combined for over 500 kills.
“It’s great to see Alexia and Maddie recognized because they’re both very solid and dependable on the outside and each had big kill numbers as well as making plays all over the court.” said Dolan. “They’re both very athletic and contribute in so many ways on the court.
“Congratulations to each of them. They performed at a very high level on the court and, more importantly, they are great leaders for our young players and help continue the great culture of our volleyball team. He gave it to me.” Dolan added.
