In order to strengthen ties between Bahrain and Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Sri Lanka and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) organized a lecture at the Bahrain National Museum.
The lecture, titled “Historical Relations between Sri Lanka and the Middle East”, was delivered by Raj Somadeva, a senior professor at the Graduate Institute of Archeology, University of Kelaniya (PGIAR), Sri Lanka.
The guest of honor was Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of BACA.
Other guests included Bahrain’s Member of Parliament Hassan Eid Bokhamas, ambassadors from the UK, India, Pakistan and Nepal, culture enthusiasts and members of Bahrain’s Sri Lankan community organizations.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Wijeratne Mendis, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Bahrain, for his efforts towards strengthening cultural cooperation between the two countries.
He also highly praised Professor Somadeva for his extensive research on Sri Lanka’s Arabic and Islamic cultural heritage and its relationship with the Middle East region.
