Justice Olubunmi Abike Fadipe of the Ikeja Special Offenses Court has sentenced a car dealer, Rasaki Wasiu Adeiga, to seven years in prison for his role in a N24.26 million fraud.
The judge reached this judgment after finding Mr. Adeyaga guilty of two charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Recall that anti-corruption authorities had indicted Mr. Adeiga for allegedly defrauding businessman Ahmed Garba Shinkafi by claiming that the amount was for the purchase of two LEXUS GX 460s.
In the complaint, Adeiga is alleged to have appropriated the amount for his own use without supplying the Lexus Jeep in Lagos in September 2020.
According to the prosecution, this offense is punishable under Articles 1(a) and (3) of the Advance Payment Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offenses Act No. 14 of 2006.
However, Adeiga pleaded not guilty to both counts when the same charges were read to him at his arraignment.
While the trial continued, anti-corruption authorities called four witnesses to prove the charges.
While delivering the sentence, Justice Abike Fadipe sentenced the convicts to seven years’ imprisonment for the first offense and two years’ imprisonment for the second offense.
The judge said sentencing will take place concurrently.
Justice Abike Fadipe likewise directed the convicts to return the money to the victims.
