Cadillac Racing’s V-Series.R topped the timesheets in the final practice session of the FIA World Endurance Championship season, with Alex Lynn clocking a time of 1 minute 49.512 seconds, ahead of the 11 other hypercars in the field. It was also nearly 0.5 seconds faster.
“We had a strong day yesterday, finishing third behind the two Toyotas,” said Lin. “Everyone has been fighting different tire strategies, but I think we’re in a good position. I think one compound is a lot faster in the laps, so how qualifying goes will depend on tire selection and how well people It depends on how aggressive you want to be.”
In second place was the No. 50 AF Corse Ferrari, with Antonio Fuoco finishing in the top three for the first time with 499 points. The Italian’s car set a time of 1:50.010 and was at the top of the timing screen early in the session, with Lin scoring a flyer with 34 minutes remaining.
The No. 99 Proton Competition Porsche finished 30 laps in the heat and finished in 3rd place, 0.7 seconds behind the Cadillac. Its sister car, Ferrari, finished fourth, while the two Toyotas, which were fast throughout Thursday’s practice, finished eighth and ninth.
In LMP2, the No. 23 United Autosport Oreca replaced the team’s No. 22 sister car as the fastest car in its category, behind Tom Blomqvist’s 1:53.661. This time was 0.028 seconds faster than the No. 9 Prema ORECA that finished in second place, and 0.2 seconds behind the No. 28 Jota ORECA that finished in the top three.
GTE Am was headlined by positive news from Project 1 AO this morning. The No. 56 “Rexy” Porsche 911 RSR 19 was repaired overnight and set the fastest time. Matteo Cairoli recorded a time of 1 minute 58.214 seconds in the first five laps of the session, good enough for the top spot in his class.
The team initially believed that the damage to the chassis caused by Gunnar Janet’s rear-end collision before the pit stop for FP2 was beyond repair. However, a full inspection later that night revealed that the damage was not as severe as initially feared, and the car had been in near-drivable condition since early this morning.
The qualifying round will be held next at 4:15pm local time.
