CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – November 6th
Richmond, VA (November 6, 2023) – CAA announced the winners of the Volleyball Weekly Awards after Week 11 of the 2023 season. Campbell senior outside hitter Chloe Cook and Charleston senior outside hitter Sophia Mink shared the CAA Player of the Week award. Additionally, Charleston senior middle blocker Sophie Vogel was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week, and Delaware freshman middle blocker Gurney Whitefield-Moss was named CAA Newcomer of the Week.

Senior | Outside Hitter | Nacogdoches, Texas / Central Heights
Cook led Campbell to a 2-0 record, hitting .400 with 4.00 kills per set and adding 2.43 digs per set. The senior outside hitter opened the weekend with a game-high 14 kills and eight digs, hitting .303 in the Camels’ straight-set win over Hampton. On Sunday, she led the match with 14 kills, posted a .545 offensive success percentage and had nine digs for the straight-up win and a berth in the CAA Tournament in Campbell’s first year in the conference.

Sophia Mink, Charleston
Senior | Outside Hitter | DeForest, WI / DeForest Area HS
Mink paced Charleston with 4.00 kills per set and a .450 batting average, leading the Cougars to an important weekend sweep against Hofstra. On Saturday, the senior outside hitter had a team-high 15 kills with just one error, hit .500, and added seven digs and three blocks in the straight-up win. Mink even exceeded that effort on Sunday, posting a career-high 17 kills on a .406 attack percentage with three blocks and two digs in Charleston’s five-set victory.
Defensive player of the week
Sophie Vogel, Charleston
Senior | Middle Blocker | Golden Valley, Minnesota / Robbinsdale Armstrong
Vogel had 16 blocks in Charleston’s conference win streak, averaging 2.00 blocks per set. In the weekend finals, Vogel recorded a career-high 12 blocks and added eight kills and two digs in a five-set victory, helping CofC earn a weekend sweep against Hofstra. The block total is the highest by a Cougar this season and third by a CAA student-athlete. This performance came after opening the weekend series with four blocks, four kills, and one dig in a straight-set win.
Rookie of the week
Gurney Whitfield – Moss, Delaware
Freshman | Middle Blocker | Bessemer, Alabama / Hueytown
Whitfield-Moss averaged 2.17 kills and 1.33 blocks per set, helping Delaware State go 2-0 over the weekend and extending its winning streak to 11 games. Over the weekend, the freshman middle blocker hit .385 with 13 kills and eight blocks in six sets. On Saturday, Whitfield-Moss hit .429 with one block while adding eight kills to help the Blue Hens dominate North Carolina A&T and earn a spot in the CAA Tournament. She hit .333 with five kills and a match-high seven blocks in Delaware State’s 3-0 victory.
