Langford was announced as the Sooners’ interim head coach in August 2019 and promoted in May 2020. Langford led the OU women’s and men’s outdoor track teams to 75 wins in regular season events, three Big 12 titles and 14 NCAA Championship berths in 2021.
OU assistant horizontal jump coach Austin Davis will serve as the Sooners’ new interim head coach until Castiglione completes his national search, according to the release.
He has been with the program since 2019 and has over 10 years of experience in track and field. Since becoming an assistant at the University of Oklahoma, Davis has coached 12 of his runners to earn All-Big 12 honors 46 times, and 18 players have made it to the NCAA first round 29 times. He earned All-American honors 12 times, with five players earning All-American honors.
In 2023 alone, Davis’ side jump group ranked second nationally in the women’s long jump, sixth in the women’s triple jump, eighth in the men’s long jump and eighth in the men’s triple jump.
Davis’ new role as interim head coach is effective immediately.
