Farmers Brunch (CBSNewsTexas.com) — On Tuesday, some of the biggest stars in professional sports competed together on the same court.
Farmers Branch’s Celebrity Pickleball Showdown featured plenty of familiar names, including Dirk Nowitzki, Scottie Scheffler, Jason Kidd, John Isner and Marty Turco.
Tony Romo and Luka Doncic were also watching the game along with thousands of others. Brookhaven Country Club.
“This is like a rock star level,” Nowitzki said. “This is different from the sport we’re trying to play…the touch, the eating on the net, the hand-eye coordination.”
Kidd said he thinks he can move better than Nowitzki, but that the retired Mavs legend “might be within reach.”
The hometown heroes may be past their prime in the sport that made them famous, but pickleball has given them a new playing field.
“I think last year was mostly fun, but this year it was a little more competitive because Scotty Scheffler is really good at pickleball,” Isner said.
The exhibit also featured the top male and female pickleball players who will compete alongside 3,500 others at the first national championship held in North Texas.
And while these superstars may have a lot to learn about pickleball, they showed that they still know how to give fans some memorable and thrilling moments.
