FAIRMONT — Lexi Haycraft had a game-best hat trick to lead the Fairmont 15U-B girls hockey team to a season-opening 9-1 victory over Cannon River on Sunday.
Haylin Haycraft contributed two goals to Fairmont’s victory at Martin County Arena, and teammate Mariel Parrish had a game-leading three assists.
Lauren Bettin had two helpers, Kennedy Murphy and Jocelyn Meyer each contributed one goal and one assist, and Carly Gustafson had one goal for Fairmont.
Fairmont had 42 shots on Cannon River’s goal, with goaltender Lexi Sandeen stopping nine shots on net.
Fairmont 15U-B (1-0) will play Cannon River again Friday night at 6:45 at Northfield Ice Arena.

The Fairmont Pee Wee ‘B’ hockey team picked up back-to-back wins in weekend ice action at Fairmont’s Martin County Arena.
Kane Wolfter scored a game-best four goals and had one assist to lead Fairmont to an 8-6 victory over Luverne last Saturday.
Van Kolowski had two goals and two assists for Fairmont, teammate Ryder Tate provided one goal and two helpers, and Logan Droegemueller scored one goal.
Wohlfter scored three more goals in Fairmont’s 9-2 victory over Okoboji on Sunday at Martin County Arena.
Thatt collected two goals and one helper in Fairmont’s win, while teammates Bennett Draper and Hogan Ertz each had one goal and one assist.
Colton Schroder and Caleb Kennedy each scored one goal for Fairmont, and Luther Maro added an assist.
Fairmont (2-0) will play New Ulm/Sleepy Eye at noon Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont, then play Windham Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Carlson Dental Bantam “B” hockey team started the season with a 2-1-1 record in weekend road ice action.
Preston Geardes had a game-best hat trick and one assist last Saturday to lead Fairmont to a 4-1 victory over the host Buffalo B-2 Purple.
For Carlson Dental, Tyler Pankow scored one goal and Josh Newbill, Bryce Aake and Preston Sepres each had one assist.
Kayden Olson handled goalie duties in the first and third periods, making 18 saves, and Fairmont teammate Colton Hines stopped five shots during the second frame.
Karlsson Dental had 18 shots on goal.
Heldes’ second goal with 1:49 left in the game (off a double assist from Ilke and Caleb Meyer) helped Fairmont regain a four-point lead over Buffalo B-2 White on Saturday.
For Fairmont, Meisel provided one goal and one helper, Sepres had one goal and Kayden Wickert had an assist in the stalemate.
Hintz made 18 saves while guarding the net in the first and third frames, and Kayden Olson had 13 stops in the second period between the pipes.
The St. Michael Albertville B-2 Blue defeated Fairmont 7-1 in on-ice competition Sunday in Albertville.
Sepres took a pass from Hunter Thatt and set up Carlson Dental’s only goal of the contest. Olson made two saves in second-period action, and Hintz chipped in with one stop during the middle frame.
Sepres scored the eventual game-winning goal in the third period of Fairmont’s 3-2 victory over St. Michael Albertville B-2 Gold on Sunday in Albertville.
Sepres assisted on Gerdes’ first goal of the game, Blake Thompson connected on an assist from Lukas Kotewa for the goal, and Sepres tipped a pass from Ilke into the net with 6:40 left in the third period.
For Fairmont, Hintz made 19 saves between the pipes in two frames and Olson stopped 21 shots in the second period.
The Carlson Dental Bantam “B” Team (2-1-1) opens the Albert Lea Tournament against Cottage Grove in Albert Lea on Friday night at 7:45 p.m.

The Fairmont 12U-B girls hockey team lost its first two games of the season in ice action last weekend at Fairmont’s Martin County Arena.
Luverne shut out Fairmont 4-0 in Saturday’s game. Netminder Nora Hazard made an incredible 50 saves in the Fairmont game.
New Ulm/Sleepy Eye then defeated Fairmont 3-1 on Sunday at Martin County Arena.
Hazard stopped NUSE’s whopping 54 shots on goal, and teammate Hayden Olson took a pass from Erin Schepman for Fairmont’s only goal.
Fairmont (0-2) will play Windham at Martin County Arena on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
