In a bid to tap into the booming Nigerian market, the Chinese automaker on Wednesday officially launched a FAW truck specifically designed to ply on Nigeria’s roads in Abuja.
Speaking at the car launch, FAW Trucks chief representative Allen Li said Nigeria is Africa’s largest market and an attractive destination for Chinese brands.
He said FAW recognizes Nigeria’s dynamic and rapidly developing economy, adding that this is why FAW Trucks formally introduced the product in Abuja.
According to him, one of the major obstacles to transportation in Nigeria is poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season.
“Previously, the journey from Lagos to Kano could take up to 15 days depending on road conditions. However, FAW Trucks has introduced trucks designed specifically for African roads.
“These vehicles can move efficiently over rough terrain, reducing the journey from Lagos to Kano to just a few days, making transportation more efficient and reliable.”
He said FAW Trucks is proactively addressing challenges faced by Nigerian consumers and providing solutions to transportation dilemmas.
According to him, this is focused on providing quick service to adapt to the unique demands of the Nigerian market.
He said that in line with global trends and the transition to sustainable energy sources, FAW Trucks is also considering transitioning from fossil fuels to greener alternatives.
“This transition is not limited to Nigeria, but also extends to our operations in China, where we have been a major player in the automotive industry for the past 15 years.
He said that FAW Trucks is focusing on producing vehicles with long service life, ensuring a service life of more than 10 years.
FAW Trucks general agent in Nigeria, Mr. Johnson Zhu, expressed his excitement over the official launch of the truck in the country.
He highlighted the unique proposition of providing customers with a two-year warranty period, providing peace of mind to buyers.
He said considering the long-term prospects in Nigeria, FAW Trucks is considering setting up a manufacturing plant in Abuja.
“The company has already established one factory in Ikeja, Lagos and aims to expand into northern Nigeria and create job opportunities to support the region’s growing population.”
Also speaking, the Chairman, National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Alhaji Yusuf Usman, called for free flow of traffic to allow members to board new trucks, adding that Nigeria needs good truck service.
He said: “The current government is trying to bring in a lot of innovations and the Ministry of Labor is also supporting the use of concrete in road construction.
“The launch of FAW trucks is very appropriate and our members will participate in it. Now is the time to move away from rickety trucks. Everything that has been inspected is fine,” he said.
