Irving, Texas – The Big 12 Conference will add women’s lacrosse in the 2024-25 school year, Commissioner Brett Yormark announced today, giving Sun Devil Lacrosse a spot in the Big 12.
“Sun Devil Lacrosse is very excited to have Lacrosse join us and represent the Big 12,” Head Coach Taryn Vanthoff Said. “The addition of Big 12 Lacrosse, one of the fastest growing sports, is an incredible opportunity to showcase our sport nationally. We are very excited to compete for an NCAA bid!”
Women’s lacrosse is growing and gaining popularity on a national level. This addition will allow new and current members to compete in national championships wearing the Big 12 logo while expanding the league’s brand at the highest level.
“We are excited about this great opportunity for our student-athletes!” said Christina Wombacher, Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women’s Administrator. “We are excited to further expand the Olympic Sports and Big 12 brands. We all look forward to a great experience for our student-athletes as they compete for championships.”
Among the Big 12 Conference institutions, Arizona State, Colorado and Cincinnati will sponsor women’s lacrosse for the 2024-25 season. This addition brings the total number of conference-sponsored sports to 25, including 15 women’s sports.
“Beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse are both experiencing growth and popularity at the national level,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. “This addition will allow new and current members to expand the league’s footprint across new sports while competing for national championships under the Big 12 umbrella.”
