Jules Bernard had 30 points and 10 rebounds as the Capital City Go-Go defeated the Maine Celtics 137-127 in the NBA G League opener on Friday night in Washington, D.C.
Hamidou Diallo scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Capital City.
JD Davison, in his second season as a two-way player for Maine, had 23 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Jordan Walsh, selected by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft, had 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in his debut.
This season, Maine will wear a ribbon on the left shoulder of its uniforms to show support for Lewiston, where 18 people were killed in a mass shooting in October. The Celtics jersey has a blue ribbon on the left shoulder that reads “LEWISTON.”

NHL: Jaromir Jagr’s familiar number 68 is headed to the rafters at PPG Paints Arena.
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Jaguar’s jersey number will be retired before the Los Angeles Kings visit on February 18th.
Jaguar spent the first 11 of his 24 seasons in the NHL with Pittsburgh, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992.

NWSL: North Carolina College forward Kerolyn was named the National Women’s Soccer League Most Valuable Player.
The Brazilian-born attacker scored a career-high 10 goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances for Courage this season. She helped the University of North Carolina to a 9-7-6 record this season, finishing third in the NWSL standings.
Premier League: Crystal Palace midfielder Ebelesi Eze has signed a contract extension to stay with the Premier League club until 2027.
The 25-year-old England international scored 10 goals last season and has one this season. He joined the south London club from Queens Park Rangers in 2020.
• Promising young striker Evan Ferguson has extended his contract with Brighton until June 2029, the Premier League club has announced.
The 19-year-old Ireland international has scored five league goals this season, including a hat-trick in the win over Newcastle.

Figure skating: The Court of Arbitration for Sport has announced that it should rule on the Beijing Olympics doping case against Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva by the end of January, after a fifth day of appeals.
The new deadline set by CAS should resolve the case almost two years after the then-15-year-old’s doping test that rocked the 2022 Winter Olympics in China.
Valieva’s positive test for a banned heart drug comes more than six weeks after she helped the Russian team win gold at the Beijing Olympics and after her sample was taken at the national championships she won in St. Petersburg. It was after a long time. A testing laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden, cited staffing issues due to the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the delayed results.

Billie Jean Kingcup: Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova defeated the American duo of Danielle Collins and Taylor Townsend 6-3, 7-5 in the final doubles match in Seville, Spain, leading the Czech Republic to Billie Jean・Advanced to the semi-finals of the King Cup.
Sinakova and Krejcikova defeated Team USA 2-1 on an indoor hard court in Seville, eliminating the team. The Czech Republic will play Canada in the semifinals on Saturday. Italy will face Slovenia in the other semi-final on an indoor hard court in Seville.
Siniakova started the day losing to Collins, who won her first singles match 6-3, 6-2 to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead in the matchup to determine which teams advance from Group A. But she defeated Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and Sofia Kenin 6-1, 6-1 to tie the Czech 1-1.

PGA: Alex Nolen started with three birdies, but then wondered if he would make another. He won two more late in the second round, posting a 5-under 66 and holding a two-stroke lead heading into this weekend’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in Southampton, Bermuda.
Nolen finally sank the putt on the par-4 15th hole, and added a birdie on the par-5 17th hole, ultimately setting a tournament record of 15-under 127.
He had a two-shot lead over Ryan Moore (64) and Satoshi Kodaira and Ryan Brehm, who each shot 65, as the Port Royal winds began to cause at least some doubt.
LPGA: Emily Christine Pederson had six birdies in her first 10 holes in Bellaire, Fla., and held a 5-under 65 to take a two-shot lead at Annika and move the Dane two rounds closer to qualifying for the LPGA. Tour season final.
Minami Katsu of Japan followed with a 67, two strokes behind, and Jasmine Suwannapura (Thailand) followed with a 65, four strokes behind.
