POWERS, Mich. (WLUC) – Nutter’s Sports Bar will hold a bread and bakery raffle Friday night to help raise funds for Nick Schetter as he prepares for a trip to the Special Olympics swimming competition. did.
Nick Baumgartner, an Iron River native and Olympic gold medalist, joined Shetter in showing support. The two met about 10 years ago and have continued to support each other ever since.
“We met and have been in each other’s corners ever since, checking in on each other and seeing how things were going. I love what I do. Sports are just such a powerful thing. It gives me the opportunity to set goals and learn how to consistently work on something. It’s not just about his athletics, it’s about other things in life. It will help with everything,” Baumgartner said.
Schetter said Baumgartner is a source of inspiration for him and tells him to do his best every time.
“He inspires me to go out and have fun and have fun with the team. I love it and I have a lot of fun,” Schetter said.
Nutter’s Sports Bar will be holding a raffle every Friday until the new year. The bar owner said it’s important to give back to the community.
“We have a voice, we have the resources, so it’s really important that we give back to the community and support those who absolutely can. We have the platform and it’s easy,” said Nutter’s Sports Bar. said owner Sean Knatter.
It remains unclear where Schetter will end up as a member of the USA Down Syndrome Swim Team.
Baumgartner said he will leave for New Hampshire on Saturday to train for more snowboard cross competitions in Europe this winter.
