CAA Football Recap – November 11th
UAlbany, Delaware, Richmond and Villanova are tied for first in the CAA entering the final week of the season after their respective wins on Saturday. New Hampshire, Rhode Island and William & Mary also won close races.
Villanova 33, Towson 10

Connor Watkins threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, including passes of 79 and 63 yards to Rayjoan Pringle, as Villanova (8-2, 6-1 CAA) defeated Towson (4-6) (3 wins, 4 losses, CAA) by 33 points. 10. Two TDs to Pringle, who had five catches for 180 yards, gave the Wildcats a 17-point lead in the second quarter, and Jalen Sanchez’s 19-yard scoring reception made it 24-0 by halftime. VU added a 4-yard TD run by Ayo-Durojaie in the third quarter, and the Tigers reached the end zone on Christopher Watkins’ 75-yard run with 7:10 left.
Jaylen Jackson added 85 yards on the ground and VU finished with 555 yards of offense. The Wildcats’ defense held Towson to 211 yards and a safety in the third quarter. Daniel Raymond had 13 tackles and 2.5 TFL for the Towson defense, and Shane Hartzell had seven stops for Villanova.
Delaware 45, Campbell 7

Ryan O’Connor passed for 246 yards and four touchdowns to lead Delaware State (8-2, 6-1 CAA) to a 45-7 win over Campbell (4-6, 3-4 CAA). led to victory. The Blue Hens took a commanding 24-0 advantage at halftime with a 51-yard pass to Jordan Townsend, a 17-yard pass to Joshua Youngblood and a 100-yard pick-six by Khalil Dorsey. In the third quarter, O’Connor extended the lead to 38-0 with TD tosses to Youngblood (1 yard) and Braden Brose (12 yards), then Campbell entered the game on a 3-yard run by Hadji Malik Williams.
Townsend had five catches for 92 yards. Jackson Taylor and Keeno Arrington each had eight tackles and Dorsey had two interceptions for the Blue Hens’ defense, which held Campbell to 288 total yards. Williams passed for 151 yards and Ezelia Anderson had six catches for 84 yards.
Albany 38, Stony Brook 20

Reese Poffenberger threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns as University at Albany (8-3, 6-1 CAA) defeated Stony Brook (0-10, 0-8 CAA) by 38 They won against 20 and won the Golden Apple. Griffin Woodell added 136 yards and a TD on the ground as the Great Danes racked up 430 yards of offense.
Clarence Leganeur’s 49-yard pick-six put Stony Brook on top early, but Woodell’s 4-yard TD run tied the score at 7-7. The Great Danes led 17-13 late in the second quarter, and Julian Hicks’ 14-yard TD reception increased the lead to 11 points at halftime. Poffenberger threw TD passes to Levi Wentz (28 yards) and Hicks (13 yards) as UA pulled away in the second half. SBU added a score late on a 22-yard grab by freshman Anthony Johnson. For UA, Brevin Easton had 89 receiving yards and a TD, and Dylan Kelly had a team-high 14 tackles. For SBU, Daron Bryden completed 21-of-31 passes for 208 yards and a TD, and Aidan Koehler had a team-high 10 tackles.
Richmond 38, Elon 24

Quarterback Kyle Wickersham passed for 169 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 130 yards and a TD as Richmond (7-3, 6-1 CAA) defeated Elon (5-5, 5 (2 wins, 2 losses, CAA) 38-24. The Spiders finished with 235 yards, with Savon Smith adding 70 yards and two TDs.
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, but the Spiders escaped with 21 points in the second quarter. Connor Deveney caught a 9-yard TD pass and Smith followed with a 1-yard scoring run and a 12-yard TD catch to make it 28-7 at halftime. Elon closed the gap in the third quarter on Jaylen Hampton’s 42-yard TD run, but Smith’s 5-yard TD run with 2:36 left sealed the game. Tristan Wheeler had a team-high 11 tackles and four sacks for the UR defense. Elon’s Matthew Downing threw for 281 yards and two TDs, and Jordan Bonner had six catches for 122 yards.
New Hampshire 31, Monmouth 24

Reserve freshman quarterback Matt Beza threw a 38-yard touchdown strike to Miles Thomason with 2:18 left in the game for his first career shutout, leading New Hampshire (5-5, 3-4 CAA) to Monmouth ( 4-6, 3-4). CAA), 31-24. The Hawks led 17-10 entering the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats tied the game on Colby Ramshaw’s 3-yard TD catch. Just 11 seconds later, Daimare Miller made a 75-yard TD grab to put Monmouth back on top, 24-17. UNH tied it again with 11:04 left on Isaac Seide’s 4-yard run, and Betsa capped off a 10-play, 82-yard drive with a big throw. The Hawks got it to the UNH 32 with seconds left, but were unable to complete the Hail Mary pass and time expired.
Miller set Monmouth records with 11 catches for 333 yards and two TDs.n.d.-Most receiving yards in CAA history. Quarterback Marquez McCray completed 21 of 32 passes for 402 yards and two TDs. For UNH, Max Brosmer had 239 yards and two TDs, and Josiah Silver had five tackles, 2.0 sacks, and 3.0 TFL, tossing the Wildcats’ defense at their mercy.
William and Mary 31, Hampton 10

William & Mary (6-4, 4-3 CAA) scored 21 points in three minutes in the fourth quarter to defeat Hampton (5-5, 3-4 CAA). Midway through the final period, the Tribe’s Quinn Osborn picked off a pass, tying the game at 10-10. On the next play, JT Mayo caught a 76-yard TD pass to put W&M in the lead. On the first play of the Pirates’ next possession, W&M linebacker Kevin Jarrell returned the interception his 40 yards for a score, making it 24-10. The Tribe defense came up big again when David Lowery recorded an interception, and four plays later W&M quarterback Tyler Hughes took control with a 6-yard TD run.
Hughes, making his first career start, led W&M’s offense with 145 passing yards and two TDs. In addition to the interception, Jarrell recorded 10 tackles and two forced fumbles. Hampton quarterback Chris Zelos threw for 159 yards and gained 77, and Romon Copeland had seven receptions for 111 yards and a TD. Kwasin Townsell had seven tackles and one forced fumble against the Pirates defense.
Rhode Island 31, North Carolina A&T 24

Jaden McKenzie rushed for a career-high 233 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-clinching 4-yard score with 2:55 left, as Rhode Island (6-4, 4-3 CAA) defeated North Carolina A&T. (1-9, 0-7 CAA). McKenzie scored from 39 yards remaining late in the second quarter and added a 30-yard TD run near the end of the third to give the Rams a 24-10 lead. North Carolina A&T fought back in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard TD run by Kenji Christian and a 14-yard TD gallop by QB Eli Brickhandler to tie the game at 24-24 with 6:15 left. But the Rams fought back with a 73-yard drive that included a 4-yard run by McKenzie, followed by a forced fumble by Brent Jackson and a recovery by Malachi Barbee to seal the victory.
For the URI offense, Kasim Hill had 137 yards and 1 TD, and Cartero Summers had 3 catches for 69 yards and 1 TD. Jackson and Jarrett Martin each recorded 10 tackles. For A&T, Brick Handler passed for 161 yards and 1 TD, ran for 88 yards and 1 TD, and Christian ran for 97 yards and 1 TD. Cade Moredor contributed 12 tackles and one interception to the Aggies defense.
