ORONO, Maine – University of Maine Associate Director of Athletics Jason Grankemeyer announced the hiring of Cody Fitzgerald as Director of Sports Performance.

Not only does he have great organizational knowledge of our current structure, but he also has valuable experience working as an assistant at Merrimack.” “Cody, head strength coach at Saint Anselm College. is ready for the next step in his career and we look forward to the impact he will make in his important role of developing student-athletes.”
Fitzgerald begins his role as sports performance director after serving as a sports performance coach at the University of Maine, head strength and conditioning coach at Saint Anselm College, and a graduate fellowship at Merrimack College.

Since July 2021, Fitzgerald has served as a sports performance coach at Maine State, working with the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs.
Prior to his time at Maine, Fitzgerald worked in the sports performance department at Saint Anselm University from August 2019 to June 2021, and was promoted to head strength and conditioning coach for the Hawks in January 2021. During that role, Fitzgerald served as direct director of strength and conditioning, became responsible for his entire program, and managed the budget and internship curriculum. Fitzgerald competed in a variety of sports during her time at Saint Anselm, including men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, field hockey, softball, and football.
Fitzgerald earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from the University of Maine in 2018 and a master’s degree in exercise and sport science from Merrimack College in 2019.
