Chelsea’s Emma Hayes was officially named the new head coach of the U.S. women’s team on Tuesday, but she won’t be at the helm of the four-time Women’s World Cup champions until May and will remain with the team until they compete at the Paris Olympics. Interim coach Twyla Kilgore will continue to lead the team until Hayes arrives at the end of the Women’s Super League season, after which Hayes will become one of her assistants.

Coach Resene replaced coach Gerhard Struber on May 8, and the team was at the bottom of the league with 1 win, 4 losses, and 6 draws, and 9 points.
The Red Bulls advanced to the playoffs in 8th place in the Eastern Conference with 11 wins, 10 draws, and 13 losses, defeating Charlotte in the first round but losing to Cincinnati.
New York has never won MLS.
The team also fired assistant coach Zach Prince.
Figure skating
Injury: Two-time U.S. Figure Skating champion Brady Tennell said he will miss the remainder of the Grand Prix season due to surgery after breaking his ankle while practicing a step sequence in practice.
Tennell, 25, has battled injuries throughout his career. Problems with her lower back kept her from competing until the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, where she helped the U.S. team win a bronze medal. She also missed the 2022 Winter Olympics with her foot injury and missed part of last fall with her ankle injury.
Tennell said he sustained the injury during warm-ups when he “caught an edge on a bracket and did a funky fall and broke his ankle.”

ATP finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas withdrew from the ATP Finals with a lower back injury after playing only three matches in the second round in Turin, Italy, handing the championship to Holger Ruhn.
Trailing 2-1 in the first set, Tsitsipas, the 2019 champion, had a long conversation with his trainer, then slowly stood up, shook his head and walked over to shake Roon’s hand.
After just 17 minutes of play, boos erupted from the crowd, and an exhibition match between substitutes Taylor Fritz and Hubert Harkatz was played instead.
