Troy, New York – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team was awarded 13 All-Liberty League honors this week, led by two major awards, after the Engineers were well represented at the league’s season awards.
The top three awards were in the senior category. sterling walker sutton Headliner Special Teams Player of the Year Award followed by Freshman Rookie of the Year Award. Kayden White. Walker Sutton, a fifth-year wide receiver from Stewartsville, N.J., is the Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year, Liberty League First Team Specialist, and Liberty League Second Team Specialist (Athlete). ) was selected. Walker-Sutton was a double return threat and led the league in both kick returns and punt returns. He returned 22 punts for 306 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 13.9 yards per game. His longest return was 89 yards and a touchdown. Walker-Sutton returned 13 kicks for 368 yards, averaging 28.3 yards per return. That year, he totaled 674 yards on returns, finishing 20th in Division III in total kick returns.
White, a freshman returning from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, won Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors. White played in 10 games and had a team-leading 488 rushing yards on 88 attempts, which ranked eighth in the Liberty League. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 48.8 yards per game, ranking in the top 10 in the league in both statistics, ranking 4th and 10th respectively. His longest rush of 56 yards was third in the league and he also scored five rushing touchdowns. He also had seven catches for 29 yards and one touchdown.
Kazanowski is a junior quarterback from Toms River, New Jersey. Hayden Faraday, a sophomore wide receiver from Anaheim Hills, Calif., both earned Liberty League first-team offensive honors. Kazanowski appeared in all 10 games this season, catching 197 passes for 1,757 yards and 15 touchdowns, and 65 rushing yards for 247 yards and five touchdowns. Faraday, a wide receiver, has six touchdowns on 57 receptions this season for 802 yards, averaging 14.1 yards per catch and 80.2 yards per game.
D’Agostino, a junior linebacker from Hewlett, New York, and Davis, a fifth-year defensive back from Baltimore, Maryland, both earned Liberty League First Team Defensive honors. D’Agostino, a linebacker, recorded 45 solo tackles and 31 assisted tackles this season. He also had two interceptions for 31 yards. Davis, a defensive back, had 33 solo tackles and nine assists for a total of 42. He gained 21 yards and one first-round pick this season.
Monteiro, a third-year native from Bridgewater, N.J., earned All-Liberty League second-team honors and Beckenhaus, a fifth-year native from Reading, Mass., earned honorable mention, each leading the offensive line on the award list. was representing. The duo led the offensive line, contributing to an offensive conversion rate of over 48 percent on third-down attempts and allowing just 12 sacks on the season.
Sicard, a junior defensive lineman from Taunton, Mass., and CJ Shoemaker, a graduate linebacker from Charlton, Mass., both earned Liberty League second-team defensive honors. Sicard led the defensive line with 21 solo tackles and 23 assists for 44 total tackles. He picked up two sacks for a total loss of 15 yards and gained 32 yards with a trio of forced fumbles and one fumble return. Shoemaker, a linebacker, had 11 solo tackles and had nine assists. He also had two sacks for a loss of 11 yards.
Three Engineers earned Liberty League defensive honorable mention. They were McNeil, a senior defensive lineman from Stillwater, New York; Garrett, a sophomore defensive back from Dameron, Maryland. and Johnson, a sophomore defensive back from Riverhead, New York. McNeil, a senior, had 16 solo tackles and 12 assists for 28 total tackles and 3.5 for a loss. He also recorded 1.5 sacks for a loss of 9 yards. Garrett, a sophomore, also recorded 28 tackles, 20 of which were solo, and had eight assists. The sophomore also had two interceptions for 11 yards. Johnson, also a sophomore, had 30 total tackles, 20 solo and 10 assists. He also had two interceptions.
RPI finishes its season this weekend when it hosts Widener at ECAV Stadium as part of the ECAC’s Scottie Whitelaw Bowl.Kickoff for the showdown is at 12:00 p.m.
