With a win, Nebraska avoids a three-game losing streak and reaches its first bowl since 2016.
The biggest question mark for the Cornhuskers heading into Saturday’s matchup is who will play under center. Sophomore Heinrich Hurlberg was viewed as a potential quarterback of the future just a few weeks ago, at least by head coach Matt Rhule, but Hurlberg did not play in last week’s game against Maryland. He was forced to leave the game with a sprained ankle, and even though he was allowed to return, it was considered “hard work.” He was on the bench in favor of junior Jeff Sims, who transferred to Georgia Tech, and then in place of sophomore Chava Purdy (the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy).

Wisconsin is looking to avoid a four-game losing streak and extend its record for longest bowl streak in the Big Ten by playing its 22nd consecutive bowl game.
The Badgers are in a similar predicament on offense, with starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai returning last week from a broken right hand (throwing) suffered in mid-October against Iowa.
“Tanner is a tough guy,” head coach Luke Fickell said. “I thought he probably did the best he could in a lot of situations, even for three weeks outside of surgery. But he’s going through a lot.”
