WAYNESBURG — Four Lycoming University wrestlers won all three matches at the Waynesburg Duals, leading their team to a dominant victory. Lycoming University opened its 2023-24 back-to-back with a 35-20 win over Division II Shippensburg University and a 49-6 win. They beat Waynesburg University 24-14 and then beat No. 23 Averett University 24-14 on Saturday.
Junior Cooper Gillum at 141 pounds, sophomore Corbin Carper at 149 pounds, sophomore Eli Crum at 174 pounds and junior heavyweight Robbie West all had a 3-0 record in the event. , set the pace for the Warriors (3 wins, 0 losses).
In the finale of the day, the Warriors won six of 10 games against the Cougars (4-1 overall), their first win over a ranked team since January 11, 2020, when they beat Castleton 24-17.
Juniors Thomas Conselier and Gillum won with sudden victory takedowns at 133 and 141, respectively, before Carper added a crucial decision to give Lycoming a 10-3 lead. Averett won its next two matches to tie the score, but Crum defeated Khalil Mitchell by 15-0 technical fall at 174, then sophomore James Ellis defeated Jacob Jiminiz by a 16-15 Wild The decision was made.
