Sydney’s North Shore is set to receive a “groundbreaking” development designed with the needs of SOHO-style remote workers and sustainability at the forefront.
Australian developer Billbergia, which renovated The Rose and Wentworth Point, has unveiled $170 million plans to develop “next generation housing” at Chatswood.
With 251 new apartments in two 27-storey buildings, the project focuses on the future with comfort at the forefront.
Including a retail store, commercial showroom, and flexible SOHO-style live/work services, residents can work remotely in the comfort and privacy of their homes.

The building will also include a 70-person daycare center for working parents.
Saul Moran, Billbergia’s development director, planning and design, said the project would provide much-needed new housing along with “next generation” commercial space.
“Once completed, it will be a dynamic, highly livable and revitalized school district.
It will seamlessly adapt to the continued trend of more flexible working and working from home post-COVID-19,” he said.
Around 40% of Australians now work from home at least part of the week, according to ABS.
Billbergia said he believes the design of the curated live production will resonate with the North Shore market.

Billbergia said the plan was designed by PBD architects, who were selected through a competitive and successful design process.
“The criteria for the design competition focused on sustainability.”
“PBD Architects’ design proposal incorporates a number of great sustainability features designed to reduce the overall environmental impact of the project,” Moran said.
Taking a ‘holistic sustainability strategy’ approach, the plan includes harvesting rainwater to irrigate the development’s landscaped areas, gardens and flushing toilets.
The light sand-colored facade on the west side is also intended to minimize heat absorption and maintain a comfortable temperature for occupancy, while the dark copper-colored facade faces east to minimize glare and This will let in the warmth from the early morning sun.
Solar panels will also be installed on the roof, supplementing the building’s energy use with renewable sources.
Residents will also have exclusive access to a variety of common facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool, landscaped common areas, and a private open rooftop space exclusive to some residents.
“We are very excited to be developing such a landmark project at Chatswood. It embodies our long-standing focus on quality and livability,” said Moran. said.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2024, subject to DA approval.
