Robert T. Peacock, 79, of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023.
Born October 23, 1944 in Lake Placid. “Bob” or “Bobby” He was the son of Robert J. Peacock and Leora (Taylor) Peacock.
His life was to be full of challenges.
Bobby excelled in sports in high school and the following is courtesy of Phil Beeney.
“Bobby was a great pitcher in high school. He had a good fastball and a knuckle curve that fell straight down. When he was using that pitch, he was the best pitcher in the area. Bob played on my dad’s town team, so we traveled together a lot when we were kids. My dad never had really good tires on his car, so we often got flat tires when we traveled. . Bobby could change a flat tire faster than anyone I’ve ever known. My father took him and a few other players to tryouts for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bobby was the best pitcher there. They told my dad that if Bob had been one year older they would have taken him to the minor league system. Bob was 15 years old and was drafted. You had to be 16 years old to be eligible, but I didn’t know that at the time. Bob was a great athlete. A great skier and ski jumper. A great baseball player and a great football player. Yes (#38). He played guard and was good at it.”
Bobby was also a great party, and after attending Paul Smith College, in need of a new direction, he joined the Army and was stationed in South Korea. For many years afterward, he worked for his father at People’s Dairy.
Bob then lived in Connecticut before moving to Lake Placid with his first wife, Janice, where they started A Touch of Glass and Lake Placid Self Storage. Bob especially loved buying old things, such as local nostalgic items. “Peacock Brothers” They have been known to bid against each other in auctions. Over the years, additional businesses have been added to the list, and he now operates with his wife Marieline. Bob, whom I met at his flea market in Lachute, Quebec in 2003, was riding his bike at 4:30 a.m. looking for antiques at the market. , Marie Line had a lot of old stuff to sell in her trailer. That was the beginning of their 20-year relationship.
Whenever he could, Bob enjoyed playing golf, listening to country music, driving old cars in the summer, and going to garage sales. But his favorite part was talking to the people in the glass shop.
Despite his health problems, he was almost always cheerful and was able to spend the last few years at home under the watchful eye of Marie Line and his devoted caregivers.
He is survived by his wife, Marieline Desirettes Peacock; Brother of Gary (Jamie), Nancy and Greg. nieces and nephews Adam (Molly), Ashley (Steve), Whitney (Adam) and Kevin; Also brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill, Tom (Ann) and Charlie, and Connie Lascoe.
