The 2024 F1 season begins on March 2nd with a unique Saturday night race in Bahrain.
F1 will enter a record-breaking 24-race season next year, up from 22 races in 2023.
The season is also longer, lasting from February to December instead of March to November.
Pre-season testing will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit from February 21st to 23rd, ahead of the opening race at the circuit.
Bahrain, which has hosted the opening race since 2021, normally holds the grand prix on a Sunday, as is customary in the sport, but next year’s race will be held on a Saturday night due to Ramadan.
Sunday is considered a “holiday” for Islamic festivals, and the world’s approximately 2 billion Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset on the other six days of the week.
Three of the record-breaking 24 races will be held one day earlier than usual as the second race in Saudi Arabia will also be held on Saturday, with lights out in Las Vegas scheduled for Saturday night.
The Chinese Grand Prix, which hasn’t been held since 2019 due to coronavirus restrictions, is scheduled to resume in Shanghai on April 21, but the calendar is set to change, with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps extending its contract. There are no new additions. Another season after potential plans to race in South Africa fell through.
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone will take place in its traditional slot on Sunday, July 7th, and the season will conclude as usual with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina on December 8th.
