A national strategic food production project has been launched to generate huge local stocks.
Minister of Local Government and Agriculture Wael Al Mubarak announced that the project’s operations have begun.
He said that under this project, local agricultural produce is expected to reach more than 520 tonnes next year and the first shrimp farming scheme will be introduced in several fisheries farms in 2024. revealed.
Mr. Al Mubarak pointed out that this was in accordance with the instructions of His Majesty King Hamad during the opening of the second session of the 6th National Assembly last month.
The Minister delivered the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 6th Bahrain Animal Production Show (Malay 2023) at the Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir yesterday.
The opening event, attended by the King, included musical performances as well as cultural heritage and European shows.
The event, which is sponsored by the King, is open to the public from today until Saturday.
Animal sector workers and farm owners will present their latest experience and technology in this field, as well as the best animal breeds in the world.
Animal and bird traders will also display their products and livestock.
It also provides marketing and advertising opportunities, in addition to the exchange of experiences between exhibitors and producers.
“The King’s royal directive to develop and implement strategic projects for national food production will be implemented as soon as we announce the start of the operation,” Al Mubarak said.
“Next year, local produce from the farms will reach more than 520 tonnes, and in 2024 the first shrimp farming scheme will be introduced in several fisheries farms,” he said. the minister said.
“Following the sound guidance of the King, we at the Ministry are building on previous achievements and implementing further initiatives to increase food production rates and increase self-sufficiency.
“We are expanding poultry production, encouraging investment in more futuristic and innovative aquaculture, and providing areas for agricultural investment.”
Mr. Al Mubarak said work is underway to develop legislation to conserve marine wealth and fisheries resources for current and future generations.
“Following the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa (Crown Prince and Prime Minister), we will address challenges and seek to enact forward-looking legislation, while improving the agricultural, livestock and marine sectors. We are working hard to achieve our strategies and programs.”
He added that farmers and breeders are encouraged to use the latest technology and make optimal use of water resources.
“The biggest example of this is the farmers’ market, which today has become an important platform for marketing Bahraini products,” he said.
A musical show titled “Samha and Haniniya” was then performed by the Royal Guard, the National Marous Committee and the Kelly Group.
This was followed by a European horse show and a musical performance titled “Master of Remembrance” by top Bahraini singers Ahmed Al Jumaili and Mohammed Al Bakri.
The song was written by Ali Abdullah Khalifa and composed by Al Jumaili.
Afterwards, the Bahrain Arda Association, the Royal Guards and the Kelly Group jointly performed Arda.

Kamriya, the best dog from the Bahraini Surki tribe owned by Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, won the Best Dog Award.
