Acknowledging the vital role and tireless efforts of the Supreme Council of Women, Member of Parliament Dr. Mariam Aldayen affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to protect women from all forms of violence.
Dr. Aldaen emphasized that Bahrain has established a strong legislative foundation dedicated to the protection of women’s rights and is continually working to update and review its laws to ensure their effectiveness. .
As Dr. Aldern asserted, legislative authorities actively support efforts to strengthen women’s rights and provide protection against various forms of violence and discrimination.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, she underlined Bahrain’s progressive position in the international community in combating violence against women and highlighted Bahrain’s significant contribution to global efforts in this regard.
Dr. Aldaen also emphasized the importance of the day in highlighting efforts that contribute to achieving gender equality.
Addressing violence against women as a national responsibility, Dr. Aldern praised the achievement of abolishing Article 353 of the Penal Code, which previously allowed rapists to be exempted from punishment if they were married to their victims.
This legal reform is recognized as a major step forward in protecting women and upholding their rights. Dr. Aldaen expressed his heartfelt praise to the Supreme Council of Women, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, for its unwavering commitment to ensuring and promoting the rights of Bahraini women.
She acknowledged the Council’s important role in combating violence, including domestic violence, through awareness-raising initiatives and other important initiatives. Additionally, Dr. Aldern praised various government agencies, including the Women’s Support Center, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Health.
