Tucked away in the bush along a stream in Templestowe sits a gorgeous mid-century modern dream home, fully restored to its retro glory.
Known as Amos House, the five-bedroom pad at 17 Colonsay Street is named after architect Graham James Amos, who built the house in 1971.
But after changing hands several times, including a football veteran, the property remained empty and “in disrepair” for four years until 2021.

City’s late rebound provides the perfect moment to attack.
Current custodians Erica George and Damon McKinnon, former bassist for Australian heavy metal band Twelve Foot Ninja, discovered the charm behind the dilapidated façade and embarked on a complete restoration. was then.
The couple spent two years transforming their original home into a modern masterpiece that pays homage to midcentury architecture.
Materials such as stone, wood, brick, glass, metal, terrazzo, and marble helped realize the entertainer’s vision of glamorous ’70s style.
“An important design feature for us was to bring the outside in, and this was achieved through the use of materials such as timber ceilings and terrazzo floors that extend from the interior to the exterior areas,” says George. Masu.
“The use of green in the interior color palette also helped to integrate it with the exterior by referencing the green of the surrounding rubber trees.”
By leaning into the curve of the original 8-foot-deep swimming pool, the duo revitalized the outdoor recreational facility and inspired the entire landscape.
“In making the decision to utilize the existing pool, we developed a robust landscaping plan that included a deck overlooking the tennis courts,” explains George.
The 4,083 square meter garden and outdoor terrace are also inspired by the Palm Springs desert and feature handcrafted stone walls, a diving board adjacent to the pool, and glass mosaic tiles.
There is also a floodlit mod grass tennis court with panoramic views of the surrounding bushland and nearby Loughey Creek Trail.
Inside, stylish features include stone walls by the recessed entry room, black butt ceilings throughout and a Calacatta marble island benchtop in the kitchen.

But George says he knows it will be “the one who got away.”
“We absolutely love this house and have put our heart and soul into it,” she says.

Many of Parkin’s football stickers can still be seen on the sliding glass door of his home office in the garage, and George and McKinnon decided to keep it in place.
