The Eagles found their way again.
The Eagles trailed the Bills 17-7 at halftime, but rallied and took the lead in the fourth quarter. After the Bills regained the lead, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott’s 59-yard field goal with 20 seconds left tied the game, and the Eagles allowed another field goal to Jalen Hurts to start the overtime session. demanded a reversal.
It was Hearts’ 10th win in 11 games this season. He ran twice for 15 yards, hit DeVonta Smith for two sure gains, then moved the ball to the 12-yard line on a D’Andre Swift run. Hurts kept the ball on the next snap and ran for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 37-34 victory in rainy Philadelphia.
This is the fourth straight week the Eagles have trailed at halftime before winning a game, and the win keeps them comfortably in first place in the NFC. It also went a long way toward strengthening his MVP claim for Hurts.
The Bills increased their lead with two turnovers, but Hurts threw three touchdowns to fuel a second-half comeback. He then drove to Elliott for a field goal and closed out the game with his second touchdown run of the day. Hurts was 18-of-31 for 200 yards and ran 14 times for 65 yards on a day when the Eagles needed every effort to win.
Josh Allen scored two points and threw the final two, but wide receiver Gabe Davis misread a critical third-down pass in overtime that would have been a touchdown if both players had played. At one point, Allen’s pass floated onto the turf. Same page. Allen also had his eighth consecutive interception, and the Eagles took advantage of the short field to advance in the fourth quarter.
Allen finished the day with 339 passing yards and 81 rushing yards, but the Bills are still 6-6 with a trip to Kansas City and a visit to the Cowboys next week after a bye. A split would likely keep them in playoff contention, but losing both games would make things very difficult for the Bills.
The Eagles have a big game of their own coming up. The 49ers will be at home next week, but with Sunday’s win, the Eagles will retain the No. 1 seed in the NFC regardless of the outcome.
