Jean E. Troutman, 90, a longtime resident of Mount Union, passed away Nov. 25 at Harmony in State College. She was born December 1, 1932 in Burnham, the daughter of the late John and Hazel Harpster Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Troutman of Mount Union. her brother, Calvin Dean of Burnham; She is survived by a sister, Hazel Egan of New Cumberland, and a niece, Mary Lou Egan of New Cumberland. She is survived by her son, John Dean Troutman and wife Linda of New Cumberland; two grandchildren, Jesse Troutman Barrett and her husband Patrick of Greenville, South Carolina, and Jacob Dean Troutman and wife Arnella Zeljkovic of New Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Harper Barrett and Hudson Barrett of Greenville, South Carolina, and Luca Dean Troutman of New Cumberland; niece Jean Heilman and her husband Dennis of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Jean loved working with flowers and bird feeders in her garden, and she was also an avid sports fan following the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Mount Union Area High School teams. . She was an excellent pinochle player, and in her youth she and her husband had a reputation as outstanding jitterbug dancers. And they never missed an opportunity to slow dance to Unchained Melody (their song). In addition to her love for her family, Jean was known for her quiet deeds for people, especially those in need. She graduated from Old Burnham High School in 1951 and was a member of her girls basketball team. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mount Union. Her work history included American She Viscose Co. in Lewistown, Andrews Feed Mill in Mapleton, Griffith She Oil in Huntingdon, and Mt. She Union Cable Operations. Her family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the noon service on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at the funeral home with Joseph Barrett officiating.
