Bahrain – Bahrain’s import value increased by 12% to reach BD561 million ($1,489 million) in October 2023, compared to BD500 million in the same month in 2022.
According to the October 2023 Foreign Trade Report published by the Information and Electronic Government Agency (iGA), the top 10 import countries accounted for 70% of total imports.
The export value of indigenous products was reported to have decreased by 13% to BD 349 million in October 2023, compared to BD 400 million in the same month of 2022. The top 10 countries accounted for 70% of total exports.
China is the top importer
According to the report, China ranks first in imports to Bahrain with a total value of 76 million BD, followed by Brazil in second place with 75 million BD, and the United Arab Emirates in third place with 46 million BD.
The top imports to Bahrain were non-lumped iron ore and alloy concentrates with a total value of 89 million BD, followed by other aluminum oxides in second place with 41 million BD, and smartphones in third place with 19 million BD.
Saudi Arabia is the top exporter
Saudi Arabia ranked first among the countries receiving exports of domestic products from Bahrain, accounting for BD86 million. The second place was the UAE with 32 million BD, and the third place was the United States with 31 million BD.
The top product exported in October 2023 was unwrought aluminum alloys with 78 million BD, followed by agglomerated iron ore and alloyed concentrates with 73 million BD, and unalloyed raw aluminum alloys with 21 million BD. Ranked 3rd in BD.
Total reexports will decrease by 17% to BD68 million in October 2023, compared to BD83 million in the same month of 2022. The top 10 countries by re-export value accounted for 87% of the re-export value. First place was the UAE with 20 million BD, second place was the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with 15 million BD, and third place was Singapore with 6 million BD.
According to the report, the top re-export products from Bahrain are turbojets with a value of BD 10 million, followed by four-wheel drive vehicles with a value of BD 5 million, followed by other parts for airplanes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles with a value of BD 3 million. Ranked 3rd in BD.
Regarding the trade balance, which represents the difference between exports and imports, there was a deficit of 143 million BD in October 2023, compared to a surplus of 17 million BD in the same period last year.
