The Giants’ offseason has been quiet so far, but that could change soon.
San Francisco is gearing up for what should be a long offseason and is reportedly looking for much-needed star power, making heavy acquisitions of top free agents like two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It has been reported.
Giants broadcaster Dave Fleming appears on the latest episode of the podcast The TK Show with The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami and asks if he thinks the team will rise to the top of the free agent and trade markets this offseason. I was asked if and why I think the St. Louis team will come out on top. The fact that the Louis Cardinals, rather than San Francisco, signed starting pitcher Sonny Gray to a three-year, $75 million contract is an indication of the Giants’ intentions this offseason.
“Certainly, I think it could happen pretty quickly,” Fleming told Kawakami. “There could be some big news about the Giants this week… They’re not only in the game, they’re in a tough spot. That doesn’t guarantee success. I’ve seen it over and over again with many of these big companies for different reasons…but they’re tough on big companies.
“When the Sonny Gray news broke, to me it was a very Giants-like signing, and Sonny Gray is a guy the Giants are familiar with…I think he was the right fit in a way, but the Giants “I didn’t mean to block it.” “By making a pre-emptive trade for him, we were able to get ourselves out of one of these bigger deals. I don’t know for a fact, but that’s what my It was an interpretation. I thought, “Hmm, that would have been a good deal for the Giants,” but that’s too early. They’re prioritizing a certain number of these players, and they have to figure them out. It must be done.”
Ohtani reportedly could sign with the team before or during the MLB Winter Meetings in Nashville, Dec. 4-7, according to Giants color commentator Mike. Krukow believes San Francisco is ramping up negotiations with Ohtani and believes the team will make some moves ahead of next season. week.
“Oh, they’re serious,” Krukow said Tuesday on KNBR 680’s “Murph & Mac.” “And for now, this is all reconnaissance. They’re gathering information and they’re enthusiastically presenting to Ohtani and his officials about San Francisco and how good it is for him. They’re totally involved in this and they’re into 10 other things.Farhan now [Zaidi] And Pete Petilla, they’re working, they’re working hard. I think we’ll see at least three moves from him by the Giants in his next 10 days, and that says a lot. I think that will happen within 10 days from now. ”
Ohtani and Yamamoto are at the top of the Giants’ list of free agent hopefuls, but if they can’t land one of the Japanese stars, they’ll likely turn their attention to a handful of other top free agents and trade targets.
No matter who the Giants face this offseason, Fleming and Krukow are confident the team is doing everything in its power to make big moves this winter.
