Bahrain will face Italy in the first game of the FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT), aiming to earn a historic spot in the men’s basketball competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Saudi senior national team is in Group B of the OQT, scheduled to be held in Puerto Rico from July 2-7 next year.
Bahrain will play Italy on the opening day, before facing hosts Puerto Rico in their next match the following day.
Group A of Bahrain’s OQT will include Mexico, Ivory Coast and Lithuania. As a result of one round robin, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on July 6th, with the winners facing each other in the finals on July 7th.
The winner of that match will qualify for the Olympics. The schedule was announced by FIBA, basketball’s international governing body, after the official lottery.
There are a total of four FIBA OQTs. Other events will be hosted by Spain, Latvia and Greece and will take place during the same period.
Group A of the Spanish OQT includes Lebanon, Angola and the Spanish hosts, while Group B includes Finland, Poland and the Bahamas.
