Ocean Star won the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Cup in the feature event held at Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club (REHC) in Sakhir yesterday.
The meeting took place in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the REHC High Commission. His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment, Vice-Chairman of the REHC High Commission, and Member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports. The five-year-old horse Ocean Star, ridden by owner Al Ahhoo Racing and trainer Mohamed Hasan, won the six-furlong race, ridden by Sufian Saadi. They took home the majority of the total prize money of BD5,000. In the buffer zone, Victorious, Fawzi Nath and Stephen Rajaji took second place. Aman took third place with Mohamed Jassim Jaafar, Talal Al Alawi and Abdullah Faisal.
BOC Cup headlined an eight-race card at REHC yesterday. The other four events he offered were the General Sports Authority (GSA) Cup. In the fourth race of the day, Laura Jam was ridden by Stefan Rajaji to win the GSA Cup, replacing Victorious and Fauzy Nass.
The four-year-old gelding won over nine furlongs to claim the lion’s share of the BD3,000 prize money. Al Mohammediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Ali Hussain followed in Return of the Mack. Magical Wish, on the other hand, had Yousif Ahmed Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain, and Salem Alajmi occupying the top three spots.
Endifa won Race 5 of the GSA Cup by a distance of over 10 furlongs, taking home the prize money of BD2,000. The five-year-old gelding won against Salman Al Alawi, Talal Alawi and Ahmed Maki. It narrowly edged out second place Master Bamboo, entered by M and E Racing, AM Smith and Lee Newman.
Lunaholic finished third with Reda Monfaredi Racing, Fauzy Nass and Stephane Rajaji. In the third race of the day, Mediterranean Moon won the GSA Cup after a nine-furlong challenge for BD2,000 prize money. Edinson Rodriguez was saddled with M&E Racing and AM Smith’s 5-year-old horse.
In December, Al Mohammediya Racing, Fawzi Nas and Jason Watson took second place. Meanwhile, Amwaj finished third behind Mohamed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim and Gerald Moss. The second race of the day saw socially distanced Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerald Mosse win the GSA Cup.
The 5-year-old filly won over eight furlongs and won a total of BD2,000 in prize money. Aquila took second place behind Abdullah Fawzi Nas, Fawzi Nas and Hussein Makki. Meanwhile, Mr. Graham came in third place, followed by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim, and Abdulrahim Jassim. Elsewhere yesterday, Rutter held on to win her imported horse’s Race 7 over seven furlongs, taking home a prize money of BD3,000. The four-year-old stallion brought victory to His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Vanguard Star won Race 6, also an imported race, over five furlongs and took home a prize money of BD2,000. Three 3-year-old geldings were victorious: Al Ahhoo Racing, Mohamed Hasan and Sufian Saadi. Race 1 saw Quheilan Weld Umm Zorail 1838 win over Victorious, Yusif Taher and Abdulrahim Jassim in the six-furlong WAHO event with a total purse of 1,500 BD. Another race meeting will be held at REHC today.
