Muharraq, Bahrain – Under the slogan “We See You”, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operating and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), officially launches the Hidden Disability Sunflower Project under the patronage of Lieutenant General Sheikh Dr. announced. Bahrain International Airport has become the second airport in the Middle East to implement the Hidden Disability Sunflower scheme. This pioneering initiative aims to improve the travel experience for individuals with hidden disabilities and ensure their needs are recognized, understood and supported throughout their journey. The Hidden Disability Sunflower Scheme is a globally recognized program that uses a discreet sunflower symbol to identify passengers with invisible disabilities. By wearing a sunflower lanyard, individuals can communicate to airport personnel that they may require additional assistance or have specific needs that should be addressed.
Customers with hidden disabilities such as autism, anxiety disorders, dementia or Crohn’s disease who require additional support can proceed to check-in counter B19 where they can collect their sunflower lanyard. Wearing this lanyard signals to all airport personnel that a passenger may require special handling and assistance during security procedures, airport transportation, or boarding.
Commenting on the importance of this program, Lieutenant General Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health, said: “The International Airport and the Ministry of Health aim to raise awareness and foster a more supportive environment for people with hidden disabilities. This work will contribute to their overall well-being and help them gain confidence. I believe I will be able to travel with it.”
His Excellency Zayed R.
