Bahrain’s elite athlete and former world champion Rose Chelimo won the women’s event at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon yesterday. Rose completed the race distance in a total of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 18 seconds.
She cut the tape with a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 35 seconds, nearly 20 seconds ahead of second place Beatrice Jeragat of Kenya, with Ethiopia’s Meseret Dinke taking bronze in 2 hours, 37 minutes and 49 seconds. The result gave the 34-year-old Rose his first win since 2018.
After the race, she reportedly said: It was hot and humid, but we did our best. This is my first win since 2018, so I’m very, very happy. Rose is the 2017 Women’s Marathon World Champion, and she also won Women’s Marathon Silver at the 2019 World Championships. Singapore was her third major marathon of the year.
The former Asian Games gold medalist also competed in the NM Marathon Rotterdam held in the Netherlands in April, finishing third, but was unable to finish at the Budapest World Championships in August. “She knew for sure she would come back (to the top of the podium),” she said. “If you practice hard, you will come back stronger.” Rose was the only Bahraini elite runner to compete in Singapore yesterday.
