Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), which operates and manages Bahrain International Airport (BIA), yesterday officially launched the Hidden Disability Sunflower Project to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated on 3 December every year.
BIA becomes the second airport in the Middle East to implement a plan aimed at enhancing the travel experience of individuals with hidden disabilities and ensuring their needs are recognized, understood and supported throughout their journey. This is a globally recognized program that uses the humble sunflower. Symbol to identify passengers with invisible disabilities.
By wearing a sunflower lanyard, individuals can indicate to airport personnel that they may require additional assistance or have specific needs. The announcement was made under the patronage of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and in cooperation with Lieutenant General Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. The event was attended by Gulf Air Group Holding Chairman Zayed Alzayani, Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Goh, BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Al Binfallah and BIA’s strategic partners.
