Angelo Genova has known for years that there is a lot of activity in Newark’s real estate sector, but Monday’s Newark Summit put it all on display in one place. Even he was surprised when he saw it being done. Ironside in Newark.
Genova, co-founder and chairman of Newark-based Genova Burns Inc. and the event’s lead sponsor, said he was impressed by the nearly 1,000 attendees.
“This reaffirms what many people know anecdotally, which is that you don’t understand critical mass unless you get everyone in the same room,” he says.
Genoa wasn’t the only one excited.
Sherif Abujid, who has been running a similar event in Jersey City for years, was pleased to finally be able to bring the event to Newark after it was postponed due to the coronavirus.
About 950 people registered for the event, Abujeed said.
“We are excited about the turnout,” he said. “I think we’ve highlighted all the exciting projects happening in Newark, many of which are led by the mayor and of course supported by the governor.
“We’re talking about all the things that are happening to the companies that are based here and the developers that are developing here.”
Genova, who has given his all to Newark for years, said it’s great to see so many people share his enthusiasm. That’s why he signed on as lead sponsor and served as host.
“I’m glad to be a part of it, and I’m glad to see so many other institutions joining it,” he said. “Whoever comes forward to sponsor us is a testament to how important this is.”
Abujid said the event will definitely be held again next year. But first, there’s the Jersey City Summit in late May.
“We’re excited,” Abujeed said.
