Chennai: State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Friday held a meeting with major insurance companies and car dealers to urgently sanction insurance claims filed by car owners affected by Cyclone Michaung.

According to a statement from the state government, representatives from 13 major insurance companies reported to the government that they have received approximately 2,320 automobile insurance claims for 600 motorcycles, 1,275 passenger cars, and 445 commercial vehicles so far. did.
The Minister advised insurance companies to act in a humane manner and promptly process insurance claims received to date and those received in the future.
The minister advised companies to set up help desks and special camps to facilitate collection of insurance claim forms from vehicle owners.
Mr. Thennarasu called on insurance companies to organize special camps in the areas most affected by the cyclone and to simplify the claims process as much as possible for the benefit of the affected people.
According to the statement, the government has offered to obligate the Federation of Automobile Dealers and temporarily provide free space for the purpose of setting up shops and repairing vehicles.
The government also agreed to explore the possibility of mobilizing tow trucks from other districts to move affected vehicles to service centres.
