Things are not beautiful because they last forever.
29 games. Won the national championship twice. Seven players were drafted in the first round. He’s one of the best college football players of all time in his playoff game. There are countless smiles on the faces of the Bulldog faithful.
This was a special time for Georgia football. The Bulldogs became the first team in 10 years to win back-to-back national titles. They were on the verge of becoming the first team since President Franklin D. Roosevelt to win three consecutive national championships.
They overcame their demons, defeated the Crimson Tide, and rose to the top of the college football food chain. They had a walk-on quarterback under center and won their first national title in over 40 years.
Then they doubled down on their success. Georgia ran through every challenger that stepped up and defeated TCU 65-7, putting an exclamation point on a near-perfect undefeated season.
But eventually, all things must come to an end. The Bulldogs ran into the Crimson Tide again, and just like in past games against Georgia, the Tide continued. Nick Saban improved to 4-0 against Georgia in the SEC Championship, improving his team’s playoff standing in the process.
Meanwhile, Georgia State has fallen out of the playoffs and is out of the national championship race. There will be no trophies. There are no three-peats.
However, the season is not over. Georgia advances to the Orange Bowl to face Florida State and try to salvage the remaining weeks before the offseason arrives.
Win or lose against the Seminoles, the players, coaches, and everyone involved with the Bulldogs should be proud of their progress thus far. They will be remembered as one of the greatest teams in college football history and will be beloved by generations of Georgia fans for years to come.
Yes, Georgia lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship…again. Setbacks are part of progress, and this series of advantages eventually had to hit a roadblock.
Georgia will enter the offseason with a list of questions, as it has in recent years. Who will quit in the spring? Who will stay? How can they address the holes in their roster? How can they improve on this season’s results? How can we get back to the national championship?
Setbacks are part of progress, but to overcome them, Kirby Smart and his staff must find ways to answer looming questions. But if his tenure thus far is any indication, Smart and the Bulldogs will be in a relentless quest for another taste of national championship gold.
“I love [this team]” Smart said. “My children have two classes.” [in the locker room] Someone who hasn’t lost a game. They are resilient and they are fighters. Often in life, you can’t get better until you lose. We have to find out what we can do better. A lot of people really care about this team and the culture on this team is really good. They were hurt there, and rightly so, but the message remains the same.the [about] I look inward and see what I can do. ”
