The Georgia women’s basketball team defeated Furman 85-55 on Sunday, earning coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson’s 400th career win. With this win, the Bulldogs improved to 6-2 on the season.
I was fortunate to have a great group of young women playing for me and a great staff to be with me,” Abrahamson-Henderson said. “It’s a combination of everything.”
Zoysha Smith led the Bulldogs with a season-high 18 points, eight rebounds and a career-high five assists. Javin Nicholson added 17 points and Chloe Chapman contributed 10 points off the bench. After Furman hit a 3-pointer for the first basket of the game, the Bulldogs never trailed.
After Furman took an early 3-0 lead, Georgia went on a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Bulldogs held a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained it in the second quarter, leading 37-26 at halftime.
The second half was pretty much the same. Furman went on an 8-0 run, but Georgia quickly sealed the game with an 11-0 run that included two triples by Chapman. Georgia entered the fourth quarter with a 61-42 lead.
The Bulldogs were dominant in the paint, scoring 33 total points, 20 of which came in the fourth quarter. Georgia finished with a 30-point lead thanks to the performances of Smith and Nicholson, with Nicholson scoring in double figures in just his eighth game of the season.
Georgia State was led on defense by Jordan Cole and Destiny Thomas, who each recorded two blocks. The Bulldogs had five blocks, the second-most blocks as a team this season. Georgia also had 26 assists as a team, the highest team total in nearly two years since recording 28 assists against South Alabama on Dec. 21, 2021.
