On Saturday, Giants fans saw their worst nightmare come true as MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani announced he would play for the Los Angeles Dodgers beyond 2024.
San Francisco was thought to be a finalist in bidding for the two-way talent in free agency, but in recent days there have been strong indications that Ohtani will ultimately choose between the Dodgers and the Dodgers — with an apology. It also includes one worthy report. The Toronto Blue Jays went through a secret negotiation process.
And in the end, Ohtani decided to join the Giants’ archrival on a 10-year deal worth a reported $700 million. Unsurprisingly, Giants fans took to social media to express their pain after missing their superstar last offseason as well.
The offseason isn’t over yet, but it remains to be seen how much offer San Francisco makes for Ohtani in the final minutes. However, this wasn’t the best start to the Giants’ offseason efforts.
