Under the Sport for Nature Framework, signatories pledge to adhere to four key principles that protect nature while contributing to national and global biodiversity targets.
The International Rafting Federation, International Weightlifting Federation, Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy and World Triathlon are the latest sports organizations to sign up to the Framework, a framework to help sports take measurable action towards nature. is. Earlier this month, European Professional Club Rugby also announced its commitment to the framework.
Sport for Nature is a joint initiative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the International Olympic Committee, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and Sails of Change.
Together, these organizations launched the Sport for Nature Framework at the Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity in Montreal, with the first 23 countries signing up on 16 December 2022. Currently, 48 sports of all sizes and regions support the framework. Establish initiatives and commit to reporting on progress annually.
Next month, 2022 signatories are expected to submit their first annual progress report, which will then be compiled and submitted as the department’s contribution to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It’s planned. This historic agreement supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and calls on all actors in society to develop and communicate their commitments.

Sport for Nature’s new signatories explained their aspirations for joining the framework:
Joseph Willis Jones, President, International Rafting Federation (IRF): “IRF is committed to creating a positive environmental, social and economic impact for current and future generations in all aspects of rafting activities. Ana Agostinho, Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy Advisor: “The Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy, which will enter its fifth edition in 2024, has been committed to sustainability since its inception. We are privileged and are keenly aware of how important it is to minimize the impact on them.
