Regulated sales targets for zero-emission vehicles will not be achieved without further government efforts to address vehicle affordability and charging infrastructure gaps, the company said.
The federal government has set sales targets for ZEV sales to account for 20% of new light vehicle purchases by 2026 and 100% by 2035.
Association President Tim Royce said high interest rates and inflation were having a serious impact on consumers’ ability to buy new cars, as evidenced by rising inventory levels at dealerships.
Mr Reuss said the association wanted the government to focus on creating the right environment to stimulate demand for EVs.
