Winds will be strong and strong from the northwest tonight and into tomorrow. That will draw in colder air and create lake-effect snow. It just started during my Monday morning commute and will cover me all day long after that. This first snowfall could result in a small amount of snow accumulation east of Highway 131, but impacts should be minimal. More snowfall amounts are expected west of U.S. Highway 131 as the snow begins to transition into lake effect during the day. Announced by the National Weather Service. Winter weather advisory From 4 a.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday for Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Ottawa, Muskegon and Oceana counties.a winter storm warning It was issued for Van Buren, Allegan, Berrien and Cass counties during the same period. If a snow band can organize tomorrow afternoon, we could see some impressive snow totals, especially in parts of western Allegan, Van Buren, Berrien, and Cass counties. This is expected to be up to 5 to 8 inches, with locally higher amounts. There could be some slippery spots during Monday morning’s commute, but road conditions are expected to deteriorate into Monday afternoon and evening, especially in the heaviest snow bands. To make matters worse, wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph are possible across the region. This could blow snow into the surrounding area and cause whiteout conditions, especially in advisory/warning areas.
Lake effect snow will end by early Tuesday morning. Fallen snow melts quickly! High temperatures Tuesday will still be in the 30s, but milder air will return over the weekend. Get the latest information from the News Channel 3 Weather Alert Team.
