Fred Toucher announced Tuesday morning that Rob Hardy Poole will be the new co-host of 98.5 Sports Hub’s highly rated morning radio show.
Poole, a regular on 98.5’s daytime show “Bertrand & Zorac,” will join the morning show on January 4, according to an announcement on the station’s website. He has worked at the station since his WBCN days before it was converted to a sports station in 2009.
According to the station, the title of the new show will be “Toucher & Hardy.”
Last month, it was announced that the popular morning show “Toucher & Rich” would end with the departure of co-host Rich Schertenlieb. Schertenlieb and 98.5 The Sports Hub were involved in contract negotiations, but Tocher signed a new contract earlier this year.
“You know, lately…even before Thanksgiving, we’ve had different guest hosts and different people come and go,” Toucher said on Tuesday’s show. “The moment I knew Rich might have a problem, it wasn’t the biggest of the year, but there was one name in my head that I brought up when I first heard there was a problem. ” he said of the pool. “I said to my agent, ‘Why don’t you tell management that if something happens, you want this gentleman to be in charge?'”
“Why? Because I’ve known him for almost as long as I’ve known Rich,” he added. “I consider him a good friend, someone I can talk to who makes me laugh in my personal life. He is extremely talented when it comes to production and frankly is underutilized on this radio station. ”
Poole thanked everyone for welcoming him and called his new co-hosting job a “huge opportunity.”
“I’m humbled and very grateful, and I’m grateful to you, Fred, and everyone here at 98.5 The Sports Hub,” he said. “I think it’s going to work out, and I think it’s going to be great.”
Schertenlieb has not yet announced his future.
