Italian design legend Giorgetto Giugiaro says he thinks Tesla’s Cybertruck is a masterpiece.
Giugiaro, who designed the cult classic DeLorean, called the Cybertruck the “Picasso of cars.”
The designer of the DeLorean spoke passionately about the Cybertruck in an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Giugiaro said he expects “this car will be very successful because people want to stand out.”
Tesla’s Cybertruck is notable as the first stainless steel vehicle produced since Giugiaro’s DeLorean. The DeLorean, which appeared in the “Back to the Future” movie series, was released in the 1980s.
Giugiaro said the Cybertruck “represents the pursuit of emotion and solidity, rather than the pursuit of harmony and perfection.”
This isn’t the first time Giugiaro has praised the Cybertruck. He told NPR in an interview last month that he thought the truck would be popular with buyers, although he declined to say at the time whether he would like it.
“Everyone wants to differentiate themselves. It’s a must-have in the market and I’m sure the Cybertruck will definitely be successful. I’m sure it will find its fans,” Giugiaro said at the time. Told.
Giugiaro’s vote of confidence will likely make Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk very happy. According to Musk’s biography by Walter Isaacson, Giugiaro’s DeLorean was one of the vehicles that inspired the Cybertruck design.
If his latest post about the X is any indication, Musk also has big plans for the Cybertruck. Musk said Monday that Tesla will roll out a “modification package” that will allow the Cybertruck to function as a boat.
“We plan to offer a MOD package that will allow the Cybertruck to traverse water depths of more than 100 meters like a boat,” Musk said. I have written X: “In most cases, the passenger door seals will need to be upgraded.”
Representatives for Tesla and Giugiaro did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider sent outside of normal business hours.
